Firstly on a sad note, Billy strange, a guitarist behind many hits and a part of the wrecking crew died this week. Just on Spec plays tribute to some of his musical genius.

Billy Strange, a prolific Los Angeles session guitarist who recorded with Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole and the Beach Boys, wrote a No. 1 single for Chubby Checker and arranged Nancy Sinatra’s No. 1 pop hit “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” died on Wednesday in Franklin, Tenn. He was 81″ from here . Check out the guitar on this Nancy Sinatra track for some of his work.

The wrecking crew was a group of session musicians that was the driving force behind a lot of early rock n roll. From Elvis, through the Beach boys, Nat king cole to Nancy Sinatra, the wrecking crew provided the sound to their sound. The best known member was Glen Campbell that went on to do his own thing. Here is a list of just some of the hits they help make.

I am off to golden plains next week, so look forward to a review when I get back.  One of the acts I am looking forward to see is Nile Rodgers and Chic. Chic is that classic disco funk soul band that brought ups hits like Le freak. Nile formed and made that certain sound to that band but also produced many hits throughout the 80s and 90’s. hits like  Like a virgin, Lets dance, Original Sin, Material girl, and the list goes on. He worked with Bowie, Madonna, INXS, Duran Duran, Rod Stewart, Thompson Twins, Peter Gabriel, Cindy Lauper and the list goes on. Find out more about him here and follow here
