October 11, 2010

Hello all again for another installment of Just on Spec,

Tonight we pay or deepest respect to one of the greats of Soul/Gospel/Rock/ Blues, Mr Solomon Burke.

From his website :

“Early this morning, Sunday, October 10, 2010, the legendary King of Rock & Soul, Solomon Burke, our father, passed away due to natural causes.

Solomon had just arrived at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands for a sold out show at Paradiso with Dutch band, De Dijk.  He was on his way to spread his message of love as he loved to do.

This is a time of great sorrow for our entire family.  We truly appreciate all of the support and well wishes from his friends and fans.  Although our hearts and lives will never be the same, his love, life and music will continue to live within us forever.  As our family grieves during this time of mourning, thank you for respecting our privacy.

Family of Solomon Burke”

He fathered 21 children, has 90 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. What a man. Best known for soul stables as “Cry to Me” and “Need somebody to love“.

Hats off to you for your music.

A great new album has hit our desk this week. Jeff Tweedy of Wilco/Uncle Tupelo fame and Mavis Staples of the Staple singers have teamed up to make one of the great recordings of 2010. “You are not alone” is a great collaboration of a monster voice and a stripped back production. Jeff pens a couple of song but Mavis also performs songs she is famous for such as “Dont Knock” and some great covers. Check out this album, it is great. what a set of pipes!!

Finally what do you get when you cross the kings of leon, a indie darlin, and a jazzed up 10 piece soul band from Melbourne. Well this…..enjoy
